HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- An arctic cold front will blast through Texas just before Christmas weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Houston area, with snow expected to begin falling on Saturday and continuing into Sunday.
The NWS is forecasting that Houston could see up to 6 inches of snow, with accumulations of up to 12 inches possible in some areas. The snow is expected to be accompanied by strong winds and cold temperatures, with lows dropping into the teens.
The city of Houston is urging residents to be prepared for the winter storm. The city has opened warming centers and is advising residents to stock up on food and water in case of power outages.
The winter storm is expected to move out of the Houston area by Monday. However, the cold temperatures are expected to linger for the rest of the week.
